Satabdi Saha Review - The Haiku Year

Many thanks go out to Satabdi Saha for an amazing review of "The Haiku Year." Here is an excerpt:

"THE HAIKU YEAR It's simply overwhelming! Oh! What a flush of colors and onomatopoeic exploration from the very first lines in THE FALL! Jim Bates is a passionate nature lover! THE FALL is astounding in the varied designs he creates in his verses! There's such an explosion of colors in the poem! Red, gun-metal grey, gold, burgundy, green, yellow, with splendid multi-colored leaves and scarlet roses aplenty! Yet passionate as he is, Bates doesn't forget the restrictions that haiku demands. He creates each stanza with dexterity as well as the precision of a seasoned haiku poet.In the haiku structure, what struck me was the poet's astonishing expressions, a strong element in poetry in general. There are many wonderful ones that caught my eye. The following left me mesmerized. "a color wheel mind", astonishing, "kaleidoscopic glee", a visual treat, "a fingernail moonrise", stupendous phrasal application, then the very impressive "Shadows long across the land /lunar fairyland". Yes. We went to a fairyland. What else could we want? Jim Bates, I just loved it. Thank you."
